Surviving Summer Holidays: A Parent’s Guide to Balancing Health and Fun with One You

July 24, 2023

As we head into the mid of July, we are getting closer and closer to the summer holidays. Doesn’t that sound nice! However, sometimes summer holidays sound more blissful than they actually are. Especially if you are a parent. For parents, this can be one of the busiest and most stressful periods of the year.

There has been a significant amount of research conducted, mainly focusing on mums (who are typically the primary care giver), that link the 6-weeks of summer holidays and decreased mental health. And as we all know, decreased mental health also has a detrimental impact on our health and wellbeing generally. A mother’s sole focus over these 6-weeks will always be keeping her children active and entertained, as well as ensuring that they eat healthy, home-cooked meals as often as possible. This can in turn results in her neglecting her own fitness, health and eating habits- Sound familiar?

This isn’t anything new. The balancing act parents play to keep their kids active and healthy, whilst staying on top of their jobs and paying attention to their health means something is always neglected. In most cases this would be the parents’ health. However, our FREE health coaching programme could be just the external support parents need to balance everyone’s health a little fairer.

When you sign-up to One You, our 1-to-1 sessions are only 30 minutes long. Giving you, as parents, the perfect bitesize healthy lifestyle session you may need during the summer. To add to the convenience, you can even have sessions over the phone. Imagine having a quick call while the kids watch a show, or during play time, to pick you up in your own health. Those 30 minutes every week could be plenty to keep track of your health over the holidays. It could be the small addition that makes the difference between having a healthy and happy summer with your kids, as opposed to an exhausting summer.

Don’t forget happy, healthy parents = Happy and healthy children!
